The module of solo performance has interested me from word go and I am grateful that it is placed in the final semester of my final year. Not only does this module allow an escape from reliment on group work, I know that it will also push me to my limits and teach me a lot about the way I work and how I am able to cope independantly. I am confident that I will approach this module in the correct manner due to priding myself on my organisational skills. I hope this acts as a staple to my solo process and is something I am interested in experimenting with for potential performance.
In entering this module, I feel solo performance to have a fairly contraversial reputation. Due to the many forms of solo work and its versatility, it is hard to generalise the response it receives, though I see this as the beauty of ‘what is art?’
Forms of solo that I feel to have the most appreciation are those such as stand up comedy, in which are a popular form of entertainment due to the famous following it has. The work of other artists such as Anna Deveare Smith and Maria Abramovic however, who enterpret solo performance in a whole different means, attract a particular audience in which I see to have a clearer mind when it comes to art and appreciation. I am keen to research the appreciation of this art form, which also stems ideas for potential performance aspects.
